In this quick tutorial I show you how to save space when working with huge projects in FCP X by using aliased Proxies.
This way you can work from a single library with files divided over several disks. I have been working in many remote places, and for me it is important to stay portable. I therefore use small 2TB disks for this project.
I took me several days to make proxies of all my footage. Now the sorting begins. I found a brilliant tutorial on media management here. This method of using Smart Collections will help me a lot when sorting the material for Newtopia. The project is huge with over 10,000 clips!
PS: Always remember to back up you stuff, you don’t want to spend days rendering proxies again!
